UK Energy Ecosystem Mapping
Mapping the UK energy sector as an ecosystem — the organisations, services, flows, and relationships that shape how energy reaches households and businesses.
The UK energy sector is structurally complex. Generation, transmission, distribution, supply, and retail sit in different hands, governed by different regulations, experienced by customers as a single service that spans all of them.
Mapping it as an ecosystem means making those relationships visible: who does what, where the handoffs are, how a decision in one part propagates through others. The goal isn’t a comprehensive reference but a working model that can support design and policy thinking about the sector, particularly around the customer experience of the energy transition.
Current focus is on domestic supply: the journey from meter to payment, the organisations involved at each point, and where visible pain points sit relative to their structural causes.
